Recreational classes
GAA offers both girls and boys classes.
Equipment available for all divisional
classes include: inground foam training
pit, inground tumbling track (40ft. trampoline),
inground trampoline, 9 class beams, 6 class
single bars, uneven bars (for Divisions 4-6),
2 high bars, pommel horse, mushroom
trainers, 2 sets of rings, parallel bar trainers,
parallel bars, 2 spring floors, cheerleading
floor, vaulting on vault horse and flatback,
and a dance room area for mirror work.
Safety is our number one focus in all class
situations.

Division 1 (8:1 student/teacher ratios - 1 hr)
Beginner level gymnastics instruction. Introduction
to terminology, beginning conditioning skills, and
instruction on the vault, floor exercise, bars, and
balance beam. Boys will receive instruction on vault,
high bar, pommel horse, rings, and floor exercise.

  Division 2
(8:1 student/teacher ratios- 1 hr)

This class is for students with previous gymnastic instruction. The variation from that would be students with more than 2 years of dance experience. Consideration is given to students with over 2 years experience in an organized sport.

Instruction is given on vault, balance beam, floor exercise, and bars. Boys will receive instruction on vault rings, pommel horse, parallel bars, and floor exercise. Emphasis will begin on form and combinations of skills. Emphasis on skill acquisition.

Division 3
(8:1 student/teacher ratios- 1 hr)
This class is for students with previous gymnastic experience. A progression of combination skills will be taught on all Olympic Equipment. Focus will be on skill perfection, including form and execution. Skill progressions of intermediate/advanced level gymnastics are taught at Division 3. Drills for advanced level skills (such as backhandsprings) are the focus. Students should be prepared to stay in Division 3 longer (individually determined) than the previous levels. A second Division 3 class weekly is recommended.

 

 

Division 4
(8:1 student/teacher ratios- 1.5 hr)

This class is for intermediate level students. Focus continues on skill acquisition and
form. More emphasis and time is spent on conditioning and general physical preparedness.

Division 5/6
(8:1 student/teacher ratios- 1.5 hr)

Divisions 5 and 6 are advanced level gymnastics. More focus on broad skill acquisition on all events. Looking for a
student proficient on all events. Students at Division 5 will be working on the following: working front hip circle, *connecting leaps on beam, *back walkover and cartwheel on
beam, power hurdle round offs and cartwheels on floor, and backhandsprings. * Boys do
not work out on the balance beam. Boys will continue progression with upper level gymnastics skills on the parallel bars, rings,
and pommel horse.
